VCSEL, full name vertical cavitysurface emittinglaser, is a vertical cavity surface emitting laser. It was first used in the field of optical communication, such as optical modules, and then began to be used in 3D sensing in the field of consumer electronics, such as face recognition. In 2017, apple used it in the iPhone face recognition module, and VCSEL also began to receive large-scale attention in the field of consumer electronics.
At present, the industrialization of optical chip / optical module in China is still in the early stage. There are not many domestic enterprises capable of producing photoelectric chips, about 30. Most of them can only produce low-end chips in large quantities, and only a few manufacturers can produce medium and high-end chips, but the production capacity is limited, accounting for less than 1% of the market. According to the development roadmap of China's optical device industry (2018-2022), optical chips with a speed of 25gb / s and above are highly dependent on imports, and the localization rate is only 3%. The first-line manufacturers in Europe, America and Japan have quite high-tech optical chip manufacturing capacity. The first-line manufacturers in Europe and America have the manufacturing capacity of 50GB optical modules, while the Japanese manufacturers also have the ability to support pam4 (400g optical modules).
